Imagine taking your computer screen and folding it up so you can take it with you. This would be possible with all the developments of “e-paper”. E-paper would open up a whole new world of mobile computing. Current struggles in producing the perfect Electronic Paper have to do with the fact that displays are either of poor quality or too expensive. As of now E-paper is utilizing two colors, white and black/blue. The way things work is with millions of tiny cavities on the page filled with an “ink” that contains Black (negative charge) and White (positive charge). Thus you can imagine each tiny cavity as a pixel that can be either black or white depending on the charge being passed through it. This creates an obstacle in developing a digital book using electronic ink considering it has to be wired to create a electrical charge while still keeping a paper thin page.
With the improvement of E-Ink and E-paper, comes the exciting future of fabric displays. For example, a computer that you could wear around your wrist like a thick bracelet, that can be used to provide on the go information to yourself or others.
As with many developing Technology advancements the biggest hurdle lies within the power supply. Or in other words batteries small, efficient, and cheap enough to realistically implement.
