Soap and Water vs. Hand Sanitizer Which is better?

Washing Hands

Which one is better? How do hands washed by soap and water compare to hands cleansed using a hand sanitizer.

It has been said that the use of hand sanitizers can be harmful considering they kill all bacteria including the “good” bacteria. Some studies actually show that hand sanitizers can cause bacteria to build up a resistance.

Food and Drug Administration regulations on food services say hand sanitizers may be used as a supplement but not as a substitute for hand washing.

Overall it is a highly debated topic that I found no definitive answer as to what one provides the best cleaning. Some hospitals encourage staff to choose hand sanitizers over soap and water unless their hands are visibly soiled. Others state that when both options are available it is safest to choose soap and water.

My verdict:

Do something. Don’t neglect your hands cleanliness it is important to maintaining good health by keeping germs away from your face and mouth. Wash your hands with soap and water whenever you get the chance, and use hand sanitizer in between. So use your hand sanitizer to compliment your regular hand washing with soap and water in order to keep your skin clean and in good shape.
