Findings have really sparked the imagination of many brilliant minds around the world causing a lot of recent development happening on Nikola Tesla’s dream of WiTricity (Wireless Electricity).
A physics research group at MIT, led by Prof. Marin Soljačić confirmed the 1980′s work of Prof. Boys by wireless powering of a 60W light bulb with 40% efficiency at a 2 meters (6.6 ft) distance. Since that confirmation Marin Soljačić, Aristeidis Karalis, and Andre Kurs founded Witricity Corp. and have been developing wireless electricity for commercial use. They have successfully been able to use magnetic induction to send energy through the air to different consumer electric devices. Simply put the way it works is by taking electricity and turning it into a magnetic field then turning that magnetic field back into electricity.
If you watch the talk below on TED “Eric Giler demos wireless electricity” you will see Eric Giler the CEO of Witricity Corp. demonstrate an array of wireless phone chargers along with a television powered completely wirelessly.
this post is very usefull thx!
